Project
Overview

In 2023, the Museum opened its exhibition on gender diversity, “Unique en son genre”, designed to open up to the world with kindness.

Our goal was to work with the museum team to design educational, interactive pieces (digital kiosks) that opened the dialogue on the social changes and issues related to gender diversity.

Scope of work

The project’s initial mission was to help visitors learn new concepts through simple methods such as matching games, quizzes and maps.

  • Experience design

To create the right experience, it was essential to put ourselves in the shoes of the audience, who could be any age and have varying levels of exposure to this type of information.

The interfaces therefore needed to be as intuitive and accessible as possible for everyone.

  • Interface design

It was important for us to adapt the design so that the exhibition reflected the diversity of LGBTQ+ identities and experiences.

To do so, we paid close attention to detail in choosing inclusive and respectful images, terms and symbols.

  • Illustration and animations

Since some of the information was sensitive, it was crucial to create playful animations in a caring setting, without unsettling the audience, while allowing everyone to learn at their own pace.

The gender nebula

The gender nebula was the first kiosk visitors saw when entering the exhibition. Its goal was to have visitors fill out a short questionnaire to help them explore their own gender identity. It also aimed to raise awareness of gender fluidity and how it interacts with other types of identity.

Design system and colours

To establish a colour palette that respects the different genders, a system was designed to build this logic. This concept was used across all the kiosks.

Opening night

The team attended this colourful evening dedicated to unveiling the exhibition (and above all to take photos with the flamboyant Québec drag queen Barbada). We had the chance to preview the complete exhibition alongside the museum team and the LGBTQ+ community.
