Project
Overview

Solution Nexam is the first Québec company specializing in online exam management and grading. The platform lets its users design, administer and grade secure assessments.

The client wanted to simplify the process and make its users autonomous on the exam platform. Exam administration tasks are often complex, especially grading open-ended questions, which can be particularly complicated.

The steps we carried out

Here are the support steps for designing the website and for designing and reviewing the exam platform.

  • Tool audit and design support

First of all, most of the features planned for the project had not yet been implemented in the current application and were still at the documentation stage.

A quick “inventory” was needed to understand and see all the tools that already existed and those that did not yet exist.

  • Brand
    refinement

Nexam’s brand image needed a rework of its colours and design components to create a new, dynamic and modern image for the new platform.

To present the new platform and its new design, Nexam’s website was also given a makeover.

  • User interface and experience design

A new experience, both improved and simplified, was proposed to support all types of users on the platform.

Buttons and other components were also revised to reduce visual noise and make tasks easier to complete.

  • Information architecture and ergonomics

A completely new ergonomic approach to the experience was proposed.

We also aimed to group the crucial steps (“gates”) in a more logical and intuitive way than before.

System analysis and audit

By bringing together the screens and documentation describing the objectives to achieve, with the help of visual diagrams, we were able to identify the source of current issues, suggest possible solutions and propose a new user journey that included the new features to integrate.

Next steps

The audit produced a list of missing screens and design elements to modify. This process gave us a lot of clarity on the design steps to come.

We also had a large number of users with different missions, so we had to design the platform for uses and contexts that matched our users’ tasks. Each step was designed as a gate.

Brand refinement / new website design

Nexam’s brand image needed a rework of its colours and design components to create a new, dynamic and modern image for the new platform. To present the new platform and its new design, Nexam’s website was also given a makeover.

Animations and social media posts

We developed short animations to explain how the platform works and present its key features. We also created social media posts to increase the platform’s visibility and introduce it to a wider audience.
